RainMen Live Review

RainMen have a punk rock sound that delves deeper into a grunge, almost mathcore style. With one man down, the three-piece performed at the Latest Music Bar on the 26th of March this year. Standing on the stage surrounded by twinkling lights and a crowd that consisted of a lot of surprisingly older aged people (both seemingly out of place), they absorbed the crowd in an undeniable loud and lively energy. They had strong, shouty vocals that no doubt gave the oldies flashbacks of the Sex Pistols, with their righteous lyrics and encouragement to start a mosh pit. (This may have been more successful without tables and chairs surrounding the stage).

The dirty bass guitar tone rumbled the room, and teens ate it up with their heads nodding to the beat. The singers’ eyes were closed, fingers bleeding from strumming too vigorously with a metal chain as a guitar strap; this band was not one to be taken lightly. It was consuming.

The bass player swung his hair around enthusiastically and wore a Swans t-shirt leaving no mistake in what music influenced them. The black ceiling and black walls seemed to suck them into a darkness that seeped through into their sound, and a twisted Nirvana presence had descended upon them. Their punk spirit was shared by the crowd with whoops and shouts as their set ended. The singer closed his eyes, mumbled unintelligibly, opens his mouth… and fills it with the microphone.

It couldn’t have been more memorable.

Their EP will be recorded in June so keep an eye out, and check them out live at their next gig on the 8th May at Sticky Mike`s in Brighton where they have some new music for you!
